Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the value of prostate specific antigen(PSA),total prostate volume(PV),the transitional zone volume of prostate(TZV)as predictors of acute urinary retention(AUR)in men with benign prostate hyperhlasia(BPH).Methods:The clinical data of 536 cases of BPH were reviewed and analyzed. All cases were divided into 2 groups.Group A included 260 patients who had suffered AUR at least one time, while Group B,the remaining 278 had never experienced AUR.The indexes of age(AGE),total prostate volume(PV),the transitional zone volume of prostate(TZV),the index of transitional zone(TZI),PSA,F-PSA and F/T-PSA between two groups were compared. Results:The average values of PV,TZV and PSA in Group A were significantly higher than that in Groups B.There were significant differences in serum PSA,PV and TZV between the two groups. Conclusions:Serum PSA,PV and TZV were powerful predictors of the risk of AUR in men with BPH.
