Abstract
Objective To study whether the irradiation of laser would inhibit the mucociliary function of rabbit nasal mucosa. Methods 32 rabbits were used in the experiment. 2 in control group and other 30 were divided into group A (SEM group) and group B 1, B 2, B 3, B 4(light microscope). Then inferior concha of rabbit was irradiated with Nd∶YAP Laser whose wavelength was 1 34 μm and whose power density was 11 24, 7 76, 8 68, 11 24 and 15 50 W/cm 2, respectively. Samples were obtained instantly and after 1, 3, 7, 14, 21 days, respectively. Histomorphologic changes of the injured rabbit nasal mucosa and its healing procedure were observed with light microscope and scanning electron microscope. Results The results showed that the surface of rabbit nasal mucosa was covered with pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium. The mucosae irradiated by laser were injured to periosteum. After 3 days, the missing plot of epithelium was covered with regenerated cells and they laidout tightly, some of which were with microvilli; After 7 days, both the cells with microvilli and those with short cilia presented in the repairing area; After 14 days, the epithelia almost rehabilitated and only a little goblet cells and its granules came into existence; After 21 days, the chronic inflammatory cells infiltrated in lamina propria, but the appearance of cilia was normal. Conclusion The nasal mucosae injured by lesser power density laser could repair; its cilia could recover; its goblet cells were rare and its glands changed lightly. It represented that its mucociliary clearance could recover.
