Influence of the Theories from Traditional Linguistics to Contemporary Linguistics upon Foreign Language Teaching

This paper analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of the linguistic theories in all periods from traditional linguistics to contemporary linguistics,as well as their influence on foreign language teaching theories and teaching practice.It particularly analyzes the characteristics of corpus linguistics which is the symbol in the period of contemporary linguistics.The conclusion of the paper clarifies that foreign language teaching methodology is the fruit of the development of both linguistics and language teaching during these periods,and,at the same time,we can find the law of the development of foreign language teaching.
