The Relationship Between Expression of Matrix Metallproteinase-2 and Prognosis in Lung Cancer

Objective: To investigate the expression of MMP-2 in lung carcinoma and it’s relationship with clinical pathological characteristics and the prognosis of the disease. Methods: S-P immunohistological staining was used to detect the expression of MMP-2 in 58 cases of lung carcinoma and 58 cases of normal lung tissues. Results: The expression rates of MMP-2 were 63.8% and 31% in lung carcinoma tissue and normal lung tissue respectively. There was significant difference of expression between them, and the MMP-2 expression was closely correlated to lymph node metastasis and clinical stages. High carcinomatous MMP-2 values were of prognostic significance for poor survival of the patients. Conclusion: The expression of MMP-2 is closely correlated to lymph node metastasis and the clinical stages of lung carcinoma, and it might serve as a parameter for determining invasive and metastasis behavior of the tummor.
