Abstract
Objective: To compare the effects of apical root canal filling and retrograde filling with mineral trioxide aggregate(MTA) for chronic apical periodontitis. Methods: A total of 130 teeth from 107 patients with chronic apical periodontitis were divided into two groups: Group A,apical root canal filling with MTA(n=58);Group B,retrograde filling with MTA(n=72).The effects were evaluated by clinical and radiographic check-up after two years. Results: There was no significant difference between the success rate of Group A(82.76%) and Group B(90.28%).Conclusions: Both apical root canal filling and retrograde filling with MTA have good curative effects for chronic apical periodontitis.
