The legal administration of ancient China towards foreigners in China

China has friendly contacted with people of other countries since the ancient times. Ancient China mostly adopted the policy of favoured treatment to foreigners who came to China, but our country consistently upheld our own judicial sovereignty. Both the “Fan Fang” system in the Tang and the Song Dynasties and the Ming and the Qing Dynasties, legal administration of Chinese government towards civil negotiation incidents in these special areas such as Macao and the borders between China and Russia show this fact. Though there were some rare special cases and the phenomena which some foreign criminals in China escaped punishments by Chinese laws, they didn't conform to the stipulations of Chinese laws and the principles of state sovereignty. We can't hold that ancient China has given foreigners in China the extraterritoriality.
