On Wang Guowei’s “Truthfulness” in His “Ideal State” Theory

This thesis offers a new explanation of the “truthfulness” of Wang Guowei’s “ideal state” theory advocated in his Renjian Cihua, in three aspects, namely: as a means of observing, “truthfulness” refers to the author’s real sense of the outside world as well as of his own emotion; as an attitude towards writing, “truthfulness” means the author’s “sincerity” to the objects he describes, and as a way of artistic communication, “truthfulness” is the author’s “authentic expressiveness” of his feelings.
