Abstract
Poetry translation,a frequent topic in translation studies,is one of the difficult parts in literary translation and many relative translation theories have been proposed.This paper is supposed to analyze the interrelationship between the universal core of human mental abilities and the translatability of poetry in the perspective of ideas expressed in Qian Zhong-shu's principle of transmigration.Image is a key concept in poetry and the possible way of transferring the images in traditional Chinese poetry to English translations is another focus discussed through comparing the translation skills and strategies taken by Chinese and western translators.
