Clinical Study of Surgical Treatment for Nodular Goiter

Abstract
Objective To introduce a new method of bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy in order to retaining the inferior thyroid artery and remaining more of normal thyroid tissue.Methods 68 patients with bilateral nodular goiter was treated by new method of bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy,and the effects of new method was compared with routine treatment.Results The difference of recurrence rates between two methods was insignificant,but the complications of new method were less than that of routine treatment.Conclusions This surgical approach is applicable,especially for patients with bilateral nodular goiter who need bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy.
