Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinicopathologic features and immunophenotype of primary solitary fibrous tumor in prostate. Methods A case of primary solitary fibrous tumor in prostate was examined by morphologic and immunohistochemical techniques, relative clinical data and literatures were reviewed. Results The patient was present with symptoms of dysuria and perineal swelling pain gradually.Histologically, the tumors showed a wide range of growth patterns varied form predominantly fibrous lesions containing large collagenized areas to more cellular and less febrous areas, with thick-walled branching vessels showing HPC-like growth pattern.Immunohistochemically, the tumor spindle cell was positive for CD34,CD99,bcl-2 and vimentin, and negative for desmin,S-100,CD117,CK,P53,SMA and ER.Conclusion Primary solitary fibrous tumor in prostate is a rare neoplasm, which could be found in various sites of human body.Solitary fibrous tumor is a benign tumor and needs to be distinguished from other spindle cell tumors.Usually, patients with a pedunculated tumor and its complete excision has a good prognosis, but it is very important to follow-up all of SFT.
