Endoscopic sinus surgery under local anaesthesia with intramuscular injection of pethidine and promethazine

Objective:To investigate the effect of pethidine and promethazine IM during the period of endoscopic sinus surgery.Methods:Sixty-four patients underwent endoscopic sinus surgery were randomly assigned to receive pethi- dine and promethazine before operation(n=32)or no pre-operative medication(control group,n=32).Pethidine 100mg and promethazine 50mg were intramuscularly injected.Results:The analgesic effects and calmness effects dur- ing the operation were significantly different in favour of pethidine and promethazine group(P0.05).The Mean ar- terial pressure and the heart rate was significantly different between two groups during/after the operation(P0.05).Conclusion:Intramuscular injection of pethidine and promethazine before endoscopic sinus surgery has favourable analgesic effects and calmness effects.
