A rectification to the interpretations of the Yi by the Gua-qi theory

Abstract

In the history of the Yi studies,scholars such as XUN Shuang and YU Fan made various interpretations to Zhouyi(the Book of Change)by the Gua-qi theory(correlating the trigrams or hexagrams to the seasonal points).Neither could we find the evidences in the ancient text of Zhouyi that could support their interpretations by the Qua-qi theory,nor do they conform to the implications conceived in Yi Zhuan(the Commentaries on Yi,also called Ten Wings)completed in the pre-Qin period.So,all their interpretations are attributed to forced analogy and could not be tenable at the same time.This demonstrates that in composing the ancient text of Zhouyi,there wasn't the concept of Qua-qi at all.
