Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between morning blood pressure surge (MBPS) and left ventricular hypertrophy in elderly patients with essential hypertension.Methods Eighty elderly patients with essential hypertension were divided into two groups according to the 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring:MBPS≥55 mm Hg was the morning peak group,MBPS55 mm Hg was the non-morning peak group,each group included 40 cases.Left ventricular mass index was calculated.Results 24-hour,daytime and night average systolic blood pressure and morning peak were significantly higher in morning peak group than in non-morning peak group;24-hour ambulatory blood pressure level and rate of left ventricular hypertrophy were significantly higher in morning peak group than in non-morning peak group(P0.05).Conclusion Morning blood pressure surge is closely related to the left ventricular hypertrophy in elderly patients with essential hypertension.
