Abstract

The most preferable synthesis process for 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl-trimethylammonium chloride (CHPTMAC) was discussed. In the synthetic reaction, the molar ratio of epichlorohydin to trimethylammonium chloride was 0 95, and the pH value of the reaction mixture was 7.5 ~ 8.0,and the reaction temperatures were 10 ℃and 35 ℃. The method for determining epichlorohydrin and DCP in CHPTMAC by chromatography was presented. The steam distillation was applied to purification of the products. The qualified product containing CHPTMAC of 69 percent was obtained, and the contents of epichlorohydrin and 1, 3-dichloro-2-propanol were less than 0.000?5 percent and 0.001?5 percent, respectively.
