Abstract

Zhang Taiyan is a well\|known revolutionary propagandist in the period of Revolution of 1911.There are two apparent features in his nationalistic ideology.\;One is his specially strong and complete fighting against the Qing Dynasty. The atrocities of Qings army and Qings heavy suppression of the widespread rebellion caused the strong hostilities to the Qing Dynasty in Zhejiang area. This influenced Zhang Taiyans ideology deeply.\;The other is that he applied a large quantity of knowledge of Chinese traditional culture to his anti\|Qing propaganda and imbued it with rich cultural spirit. This was owing to his being brought up in the south of Changjiang River, where culture and education had been the most advanced in China since the Southern Song Dynasty.More important,he had been instructed by his family and many famous scholars since he was a child. Thus,by the period of the Revolution of 1911,he had already been regarded as one of the greatest masters of Chinese traditional culture. This feature enabled him to play an irreplaceable role in the anti\|Qing propaganda activities of his times.
