Clinical effects of dexamethasone-calcium hydroxide paste used for root canal medication

Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effects of dexamethasone-calcium hydroxide paste used for root canal medication。Methods 169 teeth required root canal therapy were collected from131 acute and chronic periapical periodontitis patients,randomly divided into three groups:formocresol(FC),calcium hydroxide paste and dexamethasone-calcium hydroxide paste,enclosed the above mentioned drugs after preparing root cacal conventionally with Ni-Ti equipment,observing acute morbidity and clinical effects during treatment period.Results Patients treated by formocresol,calcium hydroxide paste,dexamethasone-calcium hydroxide paste showed increasing trend in curative effect and decreasing trend in emergency incidence.There were significant difference between Dexamethasone-calcium hydroxide paste group and formocresol group(P0.05),but not with calcium hydroxide paste group.Conclusion Dexamethasone-calcium hydroxide enclosed in root canal may kill pain better than calcium hydroxide paste.
