On the Distinguishing Intelligent Characteristic of Bian Zhi-lin's Poetry

Bian Zhi-lin, a poet of Modern School, appeared on the Chinese poetry stage in 1930s. Under the influence of Xin Yue (New Moon) School and Symbolical School, he was good at absorbing something useful from the Chinese classical poems in order to form the unique style of his own. Bian Zhi-lin was a cold but deep thoughtful poet. He always tried to avoid relieving his innermost emotion in order to seek for the cohesion of wisdom. His poems were full of philosophy and brilliant intelligence. In his poems he created a special lonely dream-seeking image, which reflected the sorrowful scene at that time. He did writing in his poetry kingdom so painstakingly, exquisitely and delicately that he could present the external unique form and shape which showed the internal feelings.
