Abstract

During the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895,Chinese and Japanese troops fought many battles on the land in Liaodong Peninsular,of which the battle in Ximucheng was decisive. After fighting intensely, the Qing government withdrew its troops and the Japanese won the battle as a result of their coordinated command, mutual cooperation and advanced weapons. The Qing troops lost the battle because they came from different parts and failed to fight in cooperation. It is improper to jump to the conclusion that they were noneffective and lacking in discpline.Judging their performance appropriately is conducive to drawing upon the experience and lessons.
