Analysis on the Growth and Development Indexes of Preschool Children in Beijing

Objective To understand the situation of preschool children's growth and development. Methods We selected 6,405 children using the method of stratified cluster sampling.Four indexes of children's development,including height,sitting height,weight and chest circumference were measured,and the growth and development indexes were calculated. Results The general trend of growth and development of preschool children in Beijing showed that the situation of boys was superior to that of girls and the situation of urban children was better than that of rural children.Boys showed relatively sturdy body shape,while girls showed relatively lanky body shape. Conclusions The exponential method is effective to evaluate the status of children's growth and development,but we should pay attention to the limitations of the various indexes.Combined use of the indexes could play a full role in the evaluation.
