The Contact and Evolution between the Policy of Having Garrison Troops or Peasants Open up Northwest Wasteland and Frontier Fortress Defense in the Western Han Dynasty

Not only the policy of having garrisoning troops or peasants open up western wasteland and frontier fortress defense defended against Chiang and Xiongnu(two ancient nationalities in China) and guaranteed a trouble-free Silk Road successfully,but also made a positive contribution to economic development of northwest frontier.Although there were government officials who were responsible for their respective system and organization,they had the same goal to defend border area tenaciously and advance production energetically,which are shown by the excavated Bamboo and Wood Slip Documents.Therefore,they had close relationship in using troops to open up uncultivated land and guarding the frontier as well as in communications,goods and materials supply,etc.With the growing expansion of Northwest Territory and the enhancement of garrisoning troops,the two systems finally united as one.
