Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate effect of umbilical cord torsion on pregnancy outcomes with fetal heart rate monitoring and umbilical blood flow parameters.METHODS 64 pregnant women with umbilical cord torsion in our hospital from January 2011 to September 2011 were considered as the observation group, while 64 pregnant cases without umbilical cord torsion were considered as the control group.Clinical data obtained were analyzed by statistical methods.RESULTS Umbilical cord torsion caused fetal distress, neonatal asphyxia and fetal death, and impacted the way of delivery, the fetal heart rate monitoring and umbilical blood flow parameters had a guiding significance for the diagnosis of umbilical cord torsion.CONCLUSION The use of fetal heart rate monitoring and umbilical blood flow parameters in diagnosing umbilical cord torsion can reduce its impact on pregnancy outcome.
