Abstract
Objective: To investigate pathogenesis and treatment of delayed encephalopathy caused by the carbon monoxide poisoning. Methods: Retrospective analysis of data collected from the Department of Neurology of our hospital between 2004 and 2007 was made. 21 cases of delayed encephalopathy caused by carbon monoxide poisoning were studied. Results: The main symptoms of 21 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning were dementia, paralysis and mental tremor symptoms. MRI suggested that the diffuse white matter lesions with BEAM performance for the diffusion of slow activity. Treatment methods involve mainly the hormone treatment, high-pressure oxygen and free radical scavengers treatment. Conclusions: The recovery degree of carbon monoxide poisoning delayed encephalopathy is determined by the patients' coma time and their age.
