A Contrast on the Differences of Politeness Principle in Chinese-English Cross-Cultural Communication

Politeness principle is highly valued in each culture.Due to cultural differences,the principle may vary concerning the content,focus,and strategies.And these variations are sometimes proved to be the obstacles to cross-cultural communication.So a contrast on the differences of politeness principle in Chinese and English culture is a must in order to achieve better awareness,and more efficient communication.Since the five principles from Gu Yue-guo(1994)is widely adopted on behalf of Chinese politeness principle,and the six principles from Leech (1983)on behalf of English politeness principle,the contrast focuses on the theories of the two linguists.
