Effect of omeprazole on Helicobacter pylori-related duoddemal ulcer

Objective To analyze clinical effects of esomeprazole in the treatment of Helicobacter pylori(Hp)-associated duodenal ulcer(DU).Methods Forty-eight patients with Hp-positive DU were randomly classified into esomeprazole-(n=24) and ranitidine-(n=24) treated groups.Patients in both groups also received treatment with amoxicillin and clarithromycin.Clinical effects and inflammation changes in gastric antrum were analyzed 8 weeks after comprehensive treatment.Results Esomeprazole significantly improved clinical symptoms including epigastric pain compared with ranitidine(P 0.01).Esomeprazole markedly enhanced ulcer healing than ranitidine(P 0.01),and HP clearance rate was significantly higher in esomeprazole-treated group than in ranitidine-treated group(P 0.01).Inflammation in gastric antrum was also remarkably improved(P 0.05).Conclusion Esomeprazole is effectively to treat Hp-associated DU and enhance HP clearance and ulcer healing.
