Abstract
Objective:To investigate the safety and efficacy of topical anesthesia in non-phacoemulsification cataract extraction and IOL implantation using small incision. Methods:Under topical anesthesia small incision non-phacoemulsification cataract extraction and IOL implantation were done in 90 patients (102eyes),and the effectiveness of topical anesthesia and postoperative visual acuity were surveyed. Results:All operation were smoothly done under topical anesthesia without any additional retrobulbar or peribulbar anesthesia and all the patients co-operated very well with the operators during the operations. The mean duration of the operation was about 20 minutes (10~45 minutes). The vision≥0.5 was 67.65% (at first postoperative day) and 77.27% (at l week postoperatively) respectively. Conclusion:Small incision non-phacoemulsification cataract extraction and IOL implantation under topical anesthesia is safe and effective.
