Clinical application of CT-guided fine-needle percutaneous biopsy in the diagnosis of lung lesions (An analysis of 117 cases)

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the value of CT - guided fine - needle percutaneous biopsy in patient with lung lesions. Methods CT - guided fine - needle percutaneous biopsy were performed in 117 patients with lung lesions, included 66 masses, 42 nodules, 9 lung consolidations. 18 G needles had been used to biopsy from the best - chosen level and situs. Cytologic and histologic studies were done after biopsy. Result The successful puncture rate were 94.1% .Of 117 cases studied,84 were proved to be cancers.77cases were confirmed by biopsy.The sensitivity of biopsy was 91.7% and specificity of biopsy was 82.5 % . Teases were false negative . No false positive was found. 33 cases were benign lesions, confirmed by pathology and clinical course. 7cases occured pneumthrax (14.5 % ), 2 of them need chest tube drainge. Conclusion CT - guided fine - needle percutaneous biopsy is a successful efficient and safty diagnostic method with high accuracy and few complications. It can provide evidence for clinical diagnosis and it is suggested to be used more widely .
