Abstract

The theorylong-term standstillin the studies of Chinese ancient history misled people to think that during 2000 years from Zhanguo to Qin and Han Dynasty till the Opium War,ancient China was on the same stage of developmet without any substantial change and that they had not seen great changes which happened in Tang and Song Dynasty.In the early 1900s,it was thought that Tang Dynasty is the end of middle age of China and Song Dynasty is the beginning of lately age.This statement aroused many debates but not enough importance. The author of this essay has studied Chinese History for more than 20 years and is greatly concerned with the history of Tang and Song Dynasty.He also thinks that Tang and Song Dynasty is a great period of reform in ancien China.This opinion is proved by such arguments as political construction,economic construction,social situation and academic thoughts.
