Abstract

Objective:To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and microvessel density(MVD)in Carcinoma of urinary bladder and its clinicel significance.Materials and Methods:With mouse anti-human VEGF and CD34 monoclonal antibody, immunohistochemistry method(S-P)was used to examine the expression of VEGF and MVD in 40 cases of transitional cell carcinoma(TCC).All assays were conducted according to the manufactures'guidelines. Results:All Forty patients had histologically confirmed TCC.The VEGF was widely expressed in the cytoplasm of endothelial cells and tumor cells of bladder carcinoma. The expression rate of VEGF was 82.5%.The level of VEGF protein in endothelia and endothelial cancer cells of grade Ⅱ and Ⅲ tumor tissues was higher than that in grade Ⅰ(P0.05).The count of the microvascular density(MVD).The bladder tissues from 40 cases was(47.9±8.7).The microvascular density in grade Ⅲ(54.9±7.0)was higher than that in grade Ⅱ(44.4±9.7),and grade Ⅰ(36.2±7.5,P0.05).The higher the grade and stage of the tumor, the higher the VEGF and MVD.Conclusions:The VEGF expression reflected the ability of the tumor growth and invasion on the basis of angiogenesis and proliferation, respectively. The expression of VEGF and MVD in bladder tissues were significantly related with histopathological grade, stage and prognosis of TCC.
