Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of polyethylene glycol-electrolyte powder in the bowel preparation for colonoscopy in the aged persons. Methods Eighty patients undergoing colonoscopy were randomized to either polyethylene glycol-electrolyte powder(A group) or electrolyte bowel preparation(B group). The quality of the bowel cleanness and bad reactiveness were assessed. Results The effective rate of bowel cleanness was 91.2% in A group, and B group was 71.7%,P0.05.Patients in A groups began to go to stool(49.9±10.2)min after taking medicine,B group was(54.6±12.4)min.There was no remarkable differences between two group. There were 13 case complained of nausea, vomitting, abdominal pain in B group, and A group was only 2 case. Conclusion Ingestion of polyethylene glycol-electrolyte powder is a safe and effective means of cleaning the bowel for colonoscopy in aged persons. It has the benefits of substantially less preparation time and dietary freedom.
