Abstract

Objective To study the protection of glutamine on intestinal mucosal barrier function in severe head trauma patients. Methods 52 cases of severe head trauma patients were divided into two groups. The patients in one group were given common nutritional support. And the pa- tients in another group were given nutritional support with glutamine. Changes of excretion of lactulose and serum endotoxin in two groups were de- tected. Statistical analyse was carried on. Results The plasma endotoxin content in early stage of head trauma patients increased obviously. After the administration of glutamine, the plasma endotoxin content was decreased, and excretion of lactulose was lower. Conclusion Glutamine could pro- tect intestinal mucosal barrier and benefit for treatment of head trauma.
