The Degree Adverb "Ji(几)" in Changsha Dialect

The word i(几)appears frequently in Changsha dialect as a degree adverb, which is against the standard Chinese grammar. This paper propunds that the usage of Ji(几)as a degree adverb has its own historical origin and support of orary dialects through sorting out the meaning of Ji(几)in the literature and dialect sources , using the synchronic and diachronic methods. The paper also introduces the opinions of cognitive linguistics in analyzing the related materials thoroughly, which results in the fact that Ji(几)as a degree adverb has its own systematic cognitive basis and the usage is rational.
