Abstract

The removal of phenol from organic wastewater by a macroporous absorption resin is described.Macroporous absorption resin XDA-200 showed good ability to adsorb phenol at pH = 6.40 in the HAc-NaAc medium. The statically saturated adsorption capacity is 277mg/g resin, phenol adsorbed on XDA-200 could be eluted by 0.5 mol/L NaOH quantitatively. The adsorption rate constants determined at various temperatures were k288= 2.33×10-2/s,k298 = 2.38×10-2/s and k308 = 2.44×10-2/s,respectively.The adsorption apparent activation energy Ea was 1.74kJ/mol.The adsorption behavior of XDA-200 resin for phenol obeys both the Freundlich and the Langmuir isotherms. The adsorption parameters of thermodynamics are ΔH=5.31kJ/mol,ΔS =53.7 J/mol·K,ΔG288K =-9.32 kJ/mol,ΔG298K =-18.0 kJ/mol,ΔG308K =-10.34 kJ/mol.
