Abstract

The drum dance of Miao nationality is one of the featured cultures as Miao nationality has no written language in history,dance for Miao society is thus not merely aesthetic and entertaining activities,but an important means of recording history and inheriting culture. With documentary analyses and field investigation,this paper interprets the natural and humanistic environments of drum dance of Miao nationality in west Hunan province from the perspective of cultural ecology and analyzes how it should adapt to the social development. And it points out the drum dance of Miao nationality in this area should seize the opportunity as the national intangible cultural heritage and the setup of the cultural ecological protection zone of Tu and Miao nationalities in the west Hunan province to preserve itself.
