Value of 16-slice Spiral CT in the Diagnosis of Retroperitoneal Stromal Tumors

Objective Study of MSCT manifestations of retroperitoneal stromal tumors in order to improve the diagnostic level.Methods The MSCT appearances of 8 cases with retroperitoneal stromal tumors confirmed by operation and pathology were retrospectively reviewed.Results Among 8 cases of retroperitoneal tumors,there were benign tumour in 1 case,potential malignant tumour in 1 case and malignant tumours in 6 cases,with metastasis in 2 cases.CT showed retroperitoneal soft tissue masses in 8 cases,the diameters of tumors were 3.2-28cm,mean 12.1cm.The tumors were round or oval in 2 cases,leaf shape in 4 cases and irregular in 2 cases.The tumors in 3 cases showed uniform density on plain CT scans,of which 2 cases showed uniform moderate enhancement and 1 case nonuniform linear enhancement on contrast-enhanced CT scans.5 cases showed unhomogeneous density on plain CT scans,calcification in 1 case and hemorrhage in 1 caseL moderate or remarkable enhancement was found in the parenchyma of the tumor,while no enhancement was found in the necrosis and cystic areas of the tumors on contrast-enhanced CT scans,of which 3 cases showed criss-cross track strengthening,the edge and the center of tumor in 3 cases showed small blood vessels.Conclusion The MSCT manifestations of retroperitoneal stromal tumors has certain characteristics,being very helpful in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of this disease.
