The Planning and Construction of Urban Disaster-prevention Parks in Japan after the Hanshin Awaji Earthquake

The fast development of city construction is bound to cause various city disasters, and reducing and preventing the disaster is already the arduous work of the city with the construction of urban disaster-prevention park as the important part. In many of the past earthquakes in Japan, the urban parks played important roles in seeking refuge and evacuating, providing safe and effective disaster-prevention space. This paper elaborates the definition, classification, function and layout principle of the disaster-prevention park which was put forward after the heavy earthquake, on the basis of the review of the development of disaster-prevention park in Japan. The achievements in the disaster-prevention park construction in Hyogo Prefecture and other regions in the recent 10 years are introduce with actual examples, so as to provide guidance and reference for the urban disaster-prevention park planning and design in China.
