Abstract

In Qing Dynasty,the neo-Confucianism in the Song and Ming Dynasties was regarded as the orthodox ideas.The women looked the chastity as the criterion.Many widows chose to preserve chastity in order to avoid censure or to be awarded by the government.But in Gansu Province,it is a common phenomenon for widows to be remarried.In this paper,the author will analyze the reasons for remarriage of women in Gansu Province in Qing Dynasty from both social and family reasons.
