Application of APACHE II to research on paraquat poisoning

Abstract

Objective To use the acute physiology and chronic health evaluation Ⅱ(APACHE Ⅱ) to assess the degree of the illness and the prognosis of the paraquat poisoning patients.Methods 28 patients with paraquat poisoning in EICU were enrolled.After APACHE Ⅱscore was calculated,the prognostic value of this system was assessed,then analysis the relationship between mortality and APACHE Ⅱ.Results APACHE Ⅱscore of these patients were range in 4 to 32,average(15.26±5.77),with average score of(8.86±4.14) for 8 survivors and(17.5±4.44) for deaths.The difference between these two groups of patients was significant(P0.01).There was a significant correlation between APACHE Ⅱscore and mortality.Conclusion APACHE Ⅱscore system can be used to predict the prognosis of paraquat poisoning patients.
