Abstract
Based on the three major stability problems on the underground powerho use, side slope and dam foundation at the Goupitan hydropower station, research works related to the mechanical test of rock, ground stress test, engineering rock classification and numerical simulation analysis conducted in the past 20-odd years are summarized. Research results in respect of the quality assessment, mechanical behaviors and parameter evaluation of rock, the rheological and tunneling characteristics of soft rock, the initial stress field of rock mass, the stabi lities of the diversion tunnels’ soft rock sections, inlets and outlets, the st ability of surrounding rock of the underground powerhouse’s cavern chambers etc . are comprehensively analyzed in this paper.
