Effect of atorvastatin on blood lipid level in patients with acute coronary syndrome

Abstract

Objective To study the effect of atorvastatin on blood lipid level in patients with acute coronary syndrome( ACS). Methods A total of 90 patients with ACS were selected in the Second People's Hospital of Wuxi City from July 2011 to July 2014. Among the patients,45 cases were treated with atorvastatin( atorvastatin group),the other 45 cases were treated with simvastatin( simvastatin group). Blood lipid level was compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results There was no significant difference in the level of blood lipid between the two groups before treatment( P 0. 05). Compared with pretherapy,the levels of total cholesterol( TC),triglyeride( TG),low density lipoprotein-cholesterol( LDL-C) and TC / HDL-C ratio were significantly lower( P 0. 05); while the high density lipoprotein-cholesterol( HDL-C) level was significantly higher after treatment( P 0. 05). The improvement of blood lipid in atorvastatin group was more than that in simvastatin group( P 0. 05). The decreased degree of LDL-C level was significantly positively correlated with TC,TG and LDL-C levels( P 0. 05) in atorvastatin group; but there was no correlation between the decreased degree of LDL-C level and HDL-C level or TC / HDL-C ratio( P 0. 05). The rate of adverse cardiovascular events in atorvastatin group and simvastatin group was37. 78%( 17 /45) and 73. 33%( 33 /45) respectively,the rate of adverse cardiovascular events in atorvastatin group was significantly lower than that in simvastatin group( P 0. 05). Conclusion Atorvastatin can significantly improve the blood lipid level,and decrease the rate of adverse cardiovascular events in patients with ACS.
