A Survey and Conservation Strategies of Bird Resources in Weinan Wetlands in Shaanxi Province

Abstract
Using route statistics method together with methods of sampling points, sampling plots and fixed-point and fixed-time observations, a comprehensive survey on bird recourses in Weinan Wetland was carried out from September 2011 to June 2012. The survey found 56 species belonging to 14 Orders and 27 Families. Passerine order had the largest number of bird species, 12 families and 31 species, accounting for 55.36% of the total. The species numbers of resident birds, passing migrant birds, summer and winter migrant birds were respectively 29, 18, 8, 1. All the birds were grouped into 9 distribution types, 6 ecological types. In addition, the analysis of relative abundance showed that most species had a number of 1-5 birds, and species with more than 200 birds was found to be the least. Proposals were made to the municipal government to balance between urban development and wetland protection, and to strengthen the awareness of bird protection and the control of discharge of urban and industrial effl uent sewage.
