Breeding of a New Watermelon Variety “Luofeng No.7”

Luofeng No. 7 is a new watermelon variety with mid-maturity. It is developed by crossing inbreds L2533 as female parent and L421-2 as male parent. The whole growing period is about 105 days from sowing and the fruit development period is about 28 days from flowering. The fruit is oblong with dark green skin and deep green narrow stripes. The flesh is red with 11.5% soluble solid at the center of the flesh. The yield per 667 m2 is 3 500 to 4 000 kg. It is suitable for cultivation in Henan province.
