Abstract
In order to improve the yield and quality of tea production in Guizhou province, an investigation on the soil present condition and its problems was conducted. The result indicated that the large area of low-yield tea gardens , extensive cultivation and low-lovel fertilization were the main causes, which resulted in low yield and quality of tea production. To promote the development of tea production, it is necessary to ameliorate soil gradually and build high-yield tea gardens by deep ploughing and increasing the application of organic fertilizer. In the same time it is needed to apply N, P and K fertilizer in a proper proportion i.e. balanced fertilization, and to conserve soil water by spreading straws along tea lines and planting hedgerows on sloping lands.
