Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of vitrectomy on vitreous hemorrhage associated with age-related macular degeneration(AMD).Methods Vitrectomy was performed in 43 cases of vitreous hemorrhage in AMD,visual acuity and fundus were observed before the operation and 1 week,2 months after surgery, and followed up for 3~12 months. Results After operation, visual acuity was improved significantly compared to that before operation(P0.01).At 1 week after operation, visual acuity of 34 eyes was improved, that of 9 eyes was same;and at 2 months after operation, visual acuity of 38 eyes was improved, that of 5 eyes was same.No recurrence of hemorrhage was found. Conclusions Vitrectomy is valid treatment for vitreous hemorrhage in AMD,it is important for prognosis to choose the correct opportunity.
