Abstract

Objective To examine the expression of NF-ΚB and COX-2 in mucoepidermoid carcinoma and the correlation between NF-ΚB and COX-2 expression. Methods The expression of NF-ΚB and COX-2 in 50 cases of mucoepidermoid carcinoma were determined using highly sensitive SP immunohistochemical method. Results The expression of NF-ΚB was mainly in nucleus and cytoplasm, the expression of COX-2 was mainly in cytoplasm. The expression rates of NF-ΚB and COX-2 in mucoepidermoid carcinoma were 26.0%(13/50) amd 48.0%(24/50) respectively. The positive expression of NF-ΚB and COX-2 in cases with lymph node metastasis and low differentiation were higher than those without metastasis and middle-high differentiation. There was a significantly positive correlation between the expression of NF-ΚB and COX-2. Conclusion Over-expression of NF-ΚB and COX-2 may play certain role in the occurrence and development of mucoepidermoid carcinoma, NF-ΚB may enhance the expression of COX-2.
