Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between expression of COX-2 and lymphangiogenesis in oral squamous cell carcinoma. Methods The expression of COX-2 and D2-40 in oral squamous cell carcinoma was evaluated by using immunohistochemistry, and the number of D2-40 positive lymphatic vessels were regarded as lymphatic vessel density(LVD).Results The expression of COX-2 in oral squamous cell carcinoma was higher than that in normal tissue, and the expression of COX-2 and LVD in oral squamous cell carcinoma with lymph node metastasis was significantly higher than that without lymph node metastasis respectively, the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).COX-2 expression was correlated with LVD in oral squamous cell carcinoma(r=0.552,P0.05).Conclusion COX-2 is a significant factor for lymphangiogenesis, which may be involved in the lymph node metastasis in oral squamous cell carcinoma.
