The analysis of related factors infecting the final visual results after the phacoemulsification operation

OBJECTIVE To analyze the related factors infecting the final visual results after cataract surgery.METHOD The factors caused low vision were studied retrospectively after Phacoemulsification with IOL surgery in 856 cataract eyes.The final visual results of three months after surgery in operated cataract eyes were taken as criterion,the visual acuity recovery that was not more than 0.3 was analyzed with statistics way.RESULTS Results There were 87 low vision eyes in 856 operated cataract eyes and they were distributed manly in the group of non senile cataract eyes(74/87,85.1 %,χ2=641.29,P=0.0000),the chief factors caused low vision after cataract surgery included the disease of retina and optic nerve that were not diagnosed before operation because of lens and vitreous opacity(64/87,73.6 %),the complications of corneal edema,posterior capsule rupture(PCR)and opacity,cystoids macular edema(CME)happened during or after the surgery(23/87,26.4 %).CONCLUSIONS In order to gain successful visual acuity recovery after the PHACO surgery,it is necessary to do detailed assessment in all cataract eyes especially in non senile cataract eyes,to do proper treatment of fundus disease and to reduce the complication during and after the operation.
