Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical characters of retinal detachment after intraocular foreign bodies and the efficacy of vitreous surgery. Methods Clinical records were reviewed on all cases who underwent vitreous surgery for the retinal detachment after intraocular foreign bodies from 1999 to 2002. Results The foreign bodies were extracted in all cases, the visual acuity were improved or steady in 30 cases (88.24%),the retinal were reattached in 29 cases (85.29%) at the end of follow-up. Conclusion vitreous traction and retinal break were the key of retinal detachment.Vitrectomy could extract the intraocular foreign bodies successively and treat the retinal detachment effectively.
