Abstract
In China law education and legal profession have been separated from each other for a long time, which is a barrier to the process of ruling the state by law in modern times. This paper argues that it is the prerequisite for the healthy development of education in law to establish ideas and notions of law education which conform to social requirements, that the development of the legal profession and its actual needs and demands constitute the internal driving force of law education, and that a definite classification of the legal profession will promote the development of law education in the light of its types and levels. Besides, the paper maintains that the fundamental task of law education is to train and bring up qualified talents competent for various jobs in law in accordance with the basic needs of the legal profession. The paper concludes that law education and legal profession constitute a dialectical unity, the two being mutually complementory.
