Abstract
This article surveys and analyzes the tolerance of ambiguity and anxiety in English language learners from cities and countryside in order to explore the relationship between tolerance and anxiety. The results show that firstly there are significant differences between students from cities and those from the countryside in their tolerance of ambiguity and the former has relatively lower tolerance than the latter.Secondly students with different tolerance of ambiguity and anxiety will have quite different performance in their English learning and generally speaking, the students with high anxiety and low tolerance of ambiguity are inferior to those with high tolerance of ambiguity and low anxiety in terms of English learning performance. Finally there is a strong relationship between tolerance of ambiguity and anxiety.
