The Late Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of China Art Circles and Their Disater Relief and Donation Attempts

During the period of late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China,natural disasters and the ravage of war brought forth a huge number of refugees who were in urgent need of social aid.However,the government could not afford to carry out efficient relief policies due to frequent wars,corrupt officials and financial crisis.Consequently,the civilian power which was driven by local elites began to undertake the responsibility of social relief.While their power grew and the art market prospered,artists associated artistic activities with charity and took on the responsibility of social relief.They contributed their efforts to the development of charities of the time.
